The new State of Telangana, with a geographical area of 1,14,840 sq. Kilometres and having a population of 3,51,93,978 (2011 census), is the twelfth largest State in terms of both area and the size of population in the country. The State is bordered by Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh in the north, Karnataka in the west and Andhra Pradesh in the south and the east. The State is strategically located in the Deccan plateau in a semi arid region. Two major perennial rivers, the Krishna and the Godavari pass through the State. Telangana is a large producer of agro products along with being a market leader in the poultry and seed business. There is huge opportunity to add value to agro-products and expand the exciting strengths.
Agriculture, Horticulture & Animal Husbandry Key Drivers of the State’s Economy
Agriculture plays a pivotal role in the economy of Telangana State. The State is endowed with bountiful resources having good soils, diversified cropping pattern and major irrigation systems fed by rivers like Godavari and Krishna. Agriculture is a way of life that has shaped the culture and economic life of the people of Telangana. The State Government has emphasized the need to achieve high growth rate and increased returns on investment to farmers through improved technology for cultivation such as green houses, effective extension reach, efficient input delivery, mechanization, marketing tie up, adequate credit and crop insurance. Sustainable growth in Agriculture continues to be core agenda for Telangana State. Rice, Sugarcane, Maize, Groundnut etc., are the major agricultural crops and Mango, Guava, Papaya, Pomegranate, Tamarind, Tomato, Onion, Carrot, Chilli, Turmeric etc. are the major horticultural crops in the State. Poultry, large and small animal meat are also available in abundance in the State.
Telangana State Food Processing Society (TSFPS)
Telanagana State Food Processing Society (TSFPS) Was established by the Government of Telangana to promote Food Processing industries in Telangana State, India. The Food Processing industry covers the establishment of Food Processing Units which process raw materials such as Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds, Fruits, Vegetables, Milk, Meat, Poultry, Fish produce etc. The TSFPS provides Grant - in - Aid up to 50% of the project cost and other incentives to set up Food Processing Units, Cold Chain and Preservation Infrastructure including reefer vans.

An Opportunity to Invest – Mega Food Parks
Three Major Food Parks are being established Telangana State with assistance from Government of India at the following locations.
1. M/s Smart Agro Mega Food Park Pvt. Ltd, in Nizamabad District
2. M/s Raagamayuri Agrovet Pvt.Ltd in Mahabubnagar District.
3. M/s TSIIC Food Park in Khammam District.
4. M/s Basavashakti Mega Food Park Pvt. Ltd, in Medak District.
Land will be provided on lease basis to Food Processing Units in the above Mega Food Parks. Grant-in-Aid and special incentives will also be provided to the units by Government of Telangana.
The Government of Telangana State is encouraging new industrial enterprises through T-IDEA (Telangana State Industrial Development and Entrepreneur Advancement).
